After
travelling through a very rough road we arrived at about 11.00am
We
were received by the Director of Mwangaza School Mr. Kinya Munirwa who ushered
us in the office of the school where he gave us the history of the school. The
school is one of the role model schools in the entire south nyanza, having
introduced a number of good things a long side excellent performance.
We
left for lunch at 1.00 pm at Hippo Buck Hotel and we came back to Mwangaza at
2.30pm.
We,
together with Mwangaza staff discussed a number of key points leading to
school’s good perfomance. We all agreed that the teacher is the most important
person in the school. It’s the good teacher who will give the school a good
direction by developing a good discipline culture through guidance and
counseling, frequent dialogue, motivation and understanding the whole vision of
the institution you are serving. In all we ended by saying teachers must always
set their goals and objectives to be implemented by themselves according to the
school mission and vision.
We
left Mwangaza School at 5.30pm for the Beach Hotel where we had some drinks
before we went back to Hippo Buck Hotel at 7.00pm for the night.
6TH
of FEBRUARY 2009
After
5 minutes drive we arrived at Homa Bay Assessment Center at 9.00am.Since this
center is in the compound of Homa Bay primary, we were received by the head
teacher of the primary school. He then took us to assessment center where we
found the officers late and we had to wait for some minutes. We went round the
school us we were waiting. Homa Bay primary is one of the most populated school
with 1800 pupils and 40 teachers, they have a class of special pupils and 3
special teachers. The assessment officer arrived by the name Mr. Omollo. He
briefed us about their work and we presented the cases with our pupils. He
examined them one by one taking about 30 minutes each and in the final was able
to make some conclusion and recommendations for each. None of our pupils had a
serious problem apart from Lillian who was epileptic in her early childhood
years. This affected her brain and cannot be treated easily. He gave us forms
for each containing the results and the recommendations. He however urged the
teachers to sacrifice and train the pupils as they were treainable. He gave the
teachers tips on how to teacher pupils with special needs as they more need time
than the rest.
We
left the center at 1.00pm for lunch at Hippo Buck then back to Kabondo at
2.00pm.We arrived at the school at around 5.00pm.I therefore thank you very much
for sponsoring our trip to Homa Bay, I believe it will better our teaching
methods and improve the life of other kids. Thank you.
